![]() ![]() Quincy has a Mediterranean climate ( Köppen Csb) though its inland location and altitude makes it more continental and wetter than usual for this type, with very heavy snowfalls sometimes occurring in winter – the record being 133 inches (337.8 cm) in the very wet January 1916. Cultivated land north of the residential area lies on poorly drained loam, silt loam or fine sandy loam. Its dominant silica-rich clastic material weathers to a stony coarse soil which includes the well or somewhat excessively drained alluvial fan material (mainly Forgay very gravelly sandy loam) on which most of Quincy's businesses and homes have been built. ![]() Quincy is underlain by metasedimentary rock of the Shoo Fly Complex. Īccording to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (11 km 2), all of it is land. The Quincy post office opened in 1855, and the town was formally recognized in 1858. He laid out the town and named it after his farm in Illinois that had been named for John Quincy Adams (1767–1848), the sixth president of the United States (1825–1829). Bradley, who helped organize Plumas County, donated land there for the county seat. Started in 1852, Elizabethtown slowly faded.ĭevelopment moved a mile away into the American Valley after settler James H. Quincy started as a Gold Rush town, associated with the former Elizabethtown, California. Quincy is on the current and ancestral lands of the Maidu people. The population was 1,630 during the 2020 Census, down from 1,728 during the 2010 Census, and 1,879 during the 2000 Census. Remember one thing, Louie doesnt lie, he just tells really great stories.Quincy (formerly Quinsy) is a census-designated place and the county seat of Plumas County, California. Have a chat with Louie, he always has a fun story and tells it in the most animated way. Whether you want to experience the abundance of outdoor activities or have a drink at their beautiful bar, this is the place to be. They have everything you need to be comfortable stove, fridge, shower, bedding etc. If you think about the years of service they have provided, from the early miners, forestry and dam builders to the thousands of vacationers, hunters, and snowmobilers, it easy to overlook the 84 years of repairs. Unlike most Chefs, Louie is more than happy to share his special recipes with the friends of Bucks Lake Lodge. From the sauces to the salsas everything is made from scratch. The prime rib dinner is the best I have ever had and for a great burger try the King Louie, you wont be sorry. ![]() Owners, Louie and Rebecca, do a wonderful job creating a fun and friendly atmosphere and all the members on their staff were great. Just got back from Bucks Lake Lodge, and what a FANTASTIC time we had. But if they do not fix their management style they will fail. Again, I want to clarify that they are a very friendly establishment. I can go on, but Its the same stuff just different things. But with keys being " lost" and then finding out the operators put them in differing areas and fail to communicate it to each other it creates a hassle for their guests who just want to relax. The next day we are finally able to get our cabin. ![]() They made good on their mistake and compensated us. Whomever made our reservation logged it in the computer but not the book so another person double booked. Apparently they book by computer log and handwritten log. First off they rented out our cabin to their previous guest so she could sleep off her weekend. There is so much potential for this place but they have to get their act together. The operators are very nice, that being said their management style is very disorganized and lacking. From stained up carpets, dust bunnies in the corners, cobwebs on the ceilings, stains on the linens, grease buildup in the sink, to name a few. The cabins and hotel fall under the dirty. There is a huge difference between simple/ rustic and dirty. A two star establishment you expect a simple/ rustic experience. There was not a recent review so I hoped when the arrangements were booked that things had improved in the past two years.
